TWave delivers high-fidelity vibration monitoring, edge analytics and secure industrial communications within HYDROSES, enhancing flexibility and efficiency in reversible pump-turbines.

TWave has successfully completed its participation in the HYDROSES project, carried out in collaboration with Iberdrola and AIMEN Centro Tecnológico. This initiative tackles a critical challenge in the global energy transition: enabling pumped-storage hydropower plants to become smarter, more flexible and more efficient to support large-scale renewable integration into the grid.

Within HYDROSES, TWave provided advanced technologies for real-time condition monitoring and diagnostics of reversible pump-turbines operating across both generating and pumping modes. Leveraging deep expertise in vibration-based health assessment of rotating machinery, our contribution integrates:

⚙️ High-fidelity acquisition of vibration, displacement and transient operating events
🧠 Edge processing and analytics using Flow-Based Programming for rapid, deterministic insights
🔐 Secure industrial communications, ensuring reliable data transmission in demanding hydro environments
🌐 Seamless integration with Digital Twin frameworks and AI-driven predictive models to enhance fault detection and performance forecasting

These developments reinforce the strategic role of pumped-storage plants as the backbone of large-scale renewable energy storage, enabling faster dynamic response, improved asset availability and more sustainable operation.

We extend our appreciation to Iberdrola and AIMEN for their outstanding collaboration and shared commitment to innovation. The knowledge gained through HYDROSES is already informing TWave’s next generation of monitoring technology for hydropower and turbomachinery.

Here’s to smarter hydro, smarter grids and a smarter renewable future.
