Q&A with Özgün Yakar

This month we would like to introduce you to Özgün YAKAR , head of the Resonance Institute and our valuable distributor in Turkey.

June 10, 2024

Here are some interesting questions we have presented him with:

1. Could you share the story of how and when you decided to establish your own company?

It was always on my mind, but until December 2022, it was just not the right time. The Resonance Institute is established to provide high-quality advanced vibration services for tough vibration problems, but it is not merely a service company. We aim to become a well-known global vibration and acoustics institute that offers advanced services to the industry, high-quality courses, and perhaps scientific research.

2. What aspects of your role as a vibration instructor do you find most fulfilling?

Performing advanced services and correcting vibration problems is an important skill, but being able to pass this know-how to students is tough. During the courses, seeing a sparkle in a student’s eye when they finally understand a long-lasting question on their mind is priceless for me.

3. If you had to choose just one standout feature of the TWave T8 online CMS, what would it be?

Definitely, the flexibility of the device stands out. It can be used as an online machinery health monitoring system and a portable advanced diagnostic multi-channel analyzer. With it, you can perform rotordynamic turbine and compressor measurements, as well as collect structural vibration data for modal testing. The dashboard and analysis screens can be arranged to your delight, offering infinite possibilities.

4. In your opinion, what are the main challenges and differences between structural vibration analysis and turbomachinery vibration analysis?

Both service types require synchronous data collection at multiple measurement points, so you definitely need to have a multichannel analyzer array. However, at the same time, you must possess a different knowledge set to perform them. For turbomachinery services, vibration knowledge alone is insufficient; you should also be a master of rotordynamic behavior and operational dynamics of the machine (including thermal effects, loading, and working mechanisms). For structural vibration measurement, a deep understanding of natural frequency, resonant behavior, and structural dynamics is a must.

Thank you for sharing your wise words and ideas with us, Özgün. Wishing The Resonance Institute great success in all its endeavors!
